To listen to the IFE system, you need to use a two-prong audio adapter or the pair of Sony noise-canceling headphones waiting at each seat. I'd definitely recommend the former since the provided pair was mediocre at best.
My experience with ANA's new business class began very early at Tokyo's Haneda Airport. Though I was connecting from Hong Kong, I elected to clear immigration and proceed to the check-in counters to get the full ground experience.
Also part of the Boeing 777 refit: a new food service area embodying the Japanese ‘Omotenashi’ philosophy of hospitality, with a redesigned the self-service bar area where mini-fridges are stocked with beverages and snacks.
The bad news? The bathrooms are all really small. Many airlines have at least one larger bathroom available, which is great if you want to change into something more comfortable to sleep in or just stretch out a bit. But that's not the case here.
Would I make an effort to fly new F cabin? Yes, but is it that much better to get upset over if you don't get it, pelo. The food and impeccable service is what makes flying F on ANA such a treat and its the same regardless of which cabin you get.
There’s always the chance for last minute aircraft swaps, especially for later in winter, as ANA does tend to tweak its schedule.
The service is friendly, yet reserved, and in between meals, the crew does not walk through the cabin much. They speak Japanese and basic English, which may lead to some service reticence, but they are always well-intentioned and want check here passengers to have a quiet cabin for resting.
Passengers only receive cold snacks on domestic flights and the drinks choices can be limited to soft drinks, wine, beer, Cava, coffee and tea depending on flight length.
Expect them to be at your seat in no time if you ring the call button as they take pride in their service. If only the cabins weren’t so big so that the first meal could be delivered more quickly (it can take up to three hours for the full meal service).
There are also buttons to control the lighting, including two reading lights on either side of the seat, a dedicated light at the front during mealtimes, and the previously mentioned underlighting.
I typically don’t even make use of lighting on a flight but found these to be easier on the eyes. Two lights are located on either side of the seat, along with one nearer the monitor for the tray table, and two more overhead lights.
However, the highlight of any meal service in ANA Business Class is to go for the kaiseki option, with offerings such as zenzai, meaning a “selection of morsels” - that included simmered pumpkin with minced chicken sauce, a cherry tomato marinated in wine sauce, grilled squid with soy sauce, a deep-fried chestnut with rice cracker crispies, luscious seared tuna and rich sesame tofu with sesame cream sauce.
Another great touch: ANA installed not one but two headphone jacks: One located by the button you use to activate the door panel, and another on the other side along with yet another USB port.
Single seats with letters C and H face forward and are closer to the aisle. In this case, the table is flush with the window.
